Hello Friends!

My name is Adunni and I'm the Taste Tutor!

I'm here to share my love and passion for scrumptious foods, and deliciously strong beverages with you; Along with the knowledge of how to craft such delicacies. I am a Black American & Yoruba girl who spent early childhood in Nigeria, grew up around my Caribbean cousins, and was raised in the Carolinas; talk about intersectionality! I love food, culture, and science, and blending the three to cook the best dishes I know how is my way of expressing love. By the grace of God, I spend my days working as a food scientist for a Seattle based food company and my nights and weekends sharing my love of food with family, friends, and you!

Experience

Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved food and anything having to do with it. I remember being young and helping my paternal grandmother with meals in Nigeria and I would always ask my mommy and maternal aunts if I could help in the kitchen when we moved back to the States. From those experiences, many family recipes and traditions were passed down to me.; luckily I've been writing them down all these years. There's even a paper out there somewhere about the West African Influence on Southern Cuisine that I wrote for my school history thesis. (Dorky or passionate?) My favorite thing as a young teenager was to come up with new recipes using seemingly unrelated ingredients we had in the house while my mother was working. I was blessed enough in high school to be exposed to both the culinary arts and food science. From those experiences I knew I wanted to learn as much as I could about food.

Throughout my life I've learned about what I believe to be the 3 essentials of food:

Culinary Arts [Art & Heritage of Food] || Food Science [The Study of Food before Consumption] || Nutrition [The Study of Food after Consumption]

I am a trained chef with a culinary nutrition degree from Johnson & Wales University as well as an education on West African, Caribbean, and Soul Food from my family.

  • Graduated Johnson & Wales University in 2009 with an Associate in Applied Science, Culinary Arts.

  • Graduated Johnson & Wales University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science, Culinary Nutrition.

  • Since graduating I’ve been working as a Food Scientist for various food companies throughout the United States.

I've also been able to travel to multiple countries to learn about different food traditions. Don't be lame; check out my blog posts!
