TRAVEL BLOG THURSDAY - CAPE TOWN
THINGS TO DO IN CAPE TOWN || CAPE TOWN || SOUTH AFRICA || August 2016
This is a continuation of my August 2016 South Africa trip. Cape Town is the most beautiful-est thing in this world! Here’s what I did.
TO DO – CAPE TOWN (CPT)
Weather
The weather is beautiful in August! It is sooooo beautiful in Cape Town! Like breathtaking!!!
Lodging
The Backpackers Cape Town – This is where I stayed but it was kind of expensive for a hostel but it was pretty fancy and breakfast was included. I was in a shared coed room. You might want to find a hostel closer to or on Long Street. The above-mentioned hostel is pretty quiet.
Currency
$1 = about 13 Rands so nothing should be too expensive.
There are money exchanges and ATMs everywhere (just google to see if your bank has any sister banks in SA so you won’t get charged fees). I believe the airport has the most expensive rate so I waited until I got to where I was going.
Transportation
I walked mostly.
Or take a shared cab. They are white vans that run up and down the streets. Everyone pools their money in the van to pay for the ride. Have exact change so the driver doesn’t have to give you change (coins). It makes it easier.
Or Uber.
Or take the train. I took the train to the different beaches. Take the Southern Line train down to the beaches from the city. All three beaches are along this route. Get off at Simons town station and take an Uber or shared cab down to boulder beach. Note: All the station stops are still listed in Afrikaans or Dutch which is different than what is on the website so ask someone before you get on the train what the stop names are. I got lost when I went because I didn’t know that.
Food
Eat Nando’s again!! – go here and eat the peri peri chicken with the spinach. My favorite thing while I was here. I ate it almost everyday! Sometime twice!
Activities
Party and Explore Long Street – there was a club playing Afrobeats and hip hop when I was there. It was by the Burger King on Long Street; can’t remember the name.
Boulder Beach Penguin Colony – see the penguins hanging out on the beach
Go to the top of Table Mountain
Muizenberg Beach – has the colorful houses
St. James Beach – also has colorful changing houses
Take a ride along the bay and see how beautiful that shit is! OMG!!
Visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned
Listen to Marimba music from a live Marimba band
Check out V&A Waterfront for shopping and views of Table Mountain
Perceiving Freedom Ray-Ban Sculpture – Nelson Mandela Memorial at Cape Town waterfront
Constantia Valley – WINE!
Visit Greenmarket Square
You can try to find a safari while you’re in South Africa. They are all over.
I highly recommend going!
