TRAVEL BLOG THURSDAY - CASABLANCA || MOROCCO

A DAY IN MOROCCO || CASABLANCA || MOROCCO || JULY 2018

Day 1 & 2 – Friday, July 20th, 2018 and Saturday, July 21st, 2018

We had a short stop-over in Casablanca, Morocco. It was a beautiful place with a ton of Arabic influence making for an interesting culture. I initially flew from Seattle to JFK, hung out with my cousin and her dog for a bit, and then flew out to Casablanca. This part ended up being about a day of travel. We flew Royal Air Maroc which makes sense that we’d have a stop-over in Morocco. Y’all know I prefer Emirates though.

After we landed, we passed through customs, grabbed our bags, and got our hotel assignment. Some airlines will give you a free room if your layover is longer than 8 hours. I like to take advantage of these because it gives an opportunity to explore another country for a little bit; and get another passport stamp. I mean, let’s be honest, that stamp and food are the only reason I travel. PRIORITIES!!

We got on the bus to our hotel.

I took the fastest shower I’ve ever taken in my life and we ate at the hotel’s restaurant. Just some basic stuff; nothing to write home about or I guess email home about or WhatsApp home about? The bread was good though. It is called Khobz and it is a traditional Moroccan white bread.

Next, we went on a tour of the city. Our tour guide was nice and informative. We stopped at Mohammed V Square, the Casablanca Cathedral, and The Famous Great Mosque, Hassan II, took pictures.

You got games on your phone?

We saw some street art and checked out some of the street food.

Groundnuts (peanuts) are so universal! I swear I’ve got at least 4 different peanut pictures from 4 different countries.

We then went to a Moroccan rug shop and got a similar experience to the one in the perfume shop, I visited in Egypt. Check out that story HERE. They served us hibiscus tea and we got to view all the different rug styles.

Outside of the shop we got to ran into a wedding party and they allowed us to join in the festivities. This was such an amazing and unexpected experience! I live for when spontaneous stuff (good spontaneous stuff) happens during travel!

We came in right at the part where gifts were being exchanged.

Once the tour was complete, we headed back to the airport and flew to Accra.

Quick story right?! Welp, until next time…

I’ve got stories about Kenya, Tanzania, and I may even do a 2014/2018 Dubai trip mash up if I can find all the picture, so look out for those travel blogs in the future!

Thanks for reading all these words!

Love ya!
