My name is Adunni and I'm the Taste Tutor; your personal chef-in-your-pocket, flavor coach, and culinary hype woman. I'm here to share my love and passion for scrumptious food, and deliciously strong beverages with you; along with the knowledge of how to craft such delicacies. I help people fall in love with food by teaching the art, science, nutrition, and culture behind every delicious bite.
I’m a Black American & Yoruba girl who spent early childhood in Nigeria, grew up surrounded by my Caribbean cousins, and was raised in the Carolinas, so yes, the intersectionality is intersectional’ing! Food, culture, and science have always shaped how I express love, identity, and creativity.
By the grace of God, I now have 20 years of food industry experience spanning across restaurant and consumer packaged goods spaces. I spend my days working as a food scientist for a Seattle-based food company. Yes, I still have a day job because bills! Nights and weekends you’ll find me teaching cooking classes, creating recipes, hosting private dinners, consulting food companies, catering, and popping up around the country as The Taste Tutor.
Taste Tutor is my way of bringing together everything I’ve learned:
Culinary Arts (the art and heritage of food), Food Science (why food works the way it does), and Nutrition (how food nourishes the body).
I love showing people how to make sometimes healthy, always indulgent, diasporic, nostalgic, and boldly flavorful meals using techniques and ingredient knowledge you can apply to any recipe. Text me, call me, video chat me, or bring me into your kitchen! I’ll meet you anywhere you are on your cooking journey.
Whether we’re exploring new ingredients, building flavor, talking about your food goals, or comparing beverages, I’m here to help you become confident in your own cooking style. My goal is to make you say, “Ohhhh THAT’S why that works!” and then teach you how to remix it into the flavors you love.
Check out my services and let’s cook together!
Food has been my love since I was a little girl. I grew up helping my grandmother cook in Nigeria, then shadowed my mommy and aunts in their kitchens when we moved back to the States, collecting family recipes and culinary traditions that shaped my cooking style and who I am today. There’s even a high school thesis I wrote floating around somewhere titled “The West African Influence on Southern Cuisine.” Passionate or dorky? Yes. My favorite thing as a young teenager was to come up with new recipes using seemingly unrelated ingredients we had in the house while my mother was working. In high school, I was blessed to be exposed to both culinary arts and food science, which set the path for the career I have now.
My brother, designer Anthony (Muddaland Ant) made my chef coat by the way. Check out Muddaland, based in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn! He also designed the Taste Tutor logo.

A proud garden girly since 2019, growing everything from herbs to hot peppers (my fave!), and heirloom veggies. One day I fully plan to have my own farm where food, culture, and community can flourish together!
Taste Tutor maintains an ongoing collaborative partnership with Refresh House, a community-centered juice and smoothie bar in Renton, WA! I’m the menu developer, consultant, and equity/culinary partner with my former colleague turned business partner, Jaspaul Sahota! Together, we developed and refined the menu, combining my background in culinary arts and food science with his vision for wellness, community, and amazing cold pressed juices. Refresh House is a space where fresh ingredients, good vibes, and wellness all come together, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
We’ve been going strong since our opening in December 2021! If you’re in the area, stop by, taste some of the made-from-scratch menu items developed in-house, and come show some love! https://www.refreshhousenw.com/
