PALM WINE INFO
Palm wine is an alcoholic beverage made from the sap of various types of palm tree. It is called “oguro” in Nigeria. Palm sap starts fermenting right after it is collected from the trees, by the natural yeasts in the air. After two hours of fermentation, you’re left with a sweet smelling wine with low alcohol content (about 4%). It tastes fruity with a slight smoky flavor. There are no tannins or alcohol burn when drinking it. It is a cloudy liquid with fresh coconut water consistency . In Ghana it is traditionally drank with Guinness for an extra boost. For stronger and more acidic wine, it will need to ferment longer, up to a day. It turns to vinegar if fermented any further. It is kept refrigerated to slow the fermentation process.
