SIMPLE SOUTHERN CORNBREAD

Simple Southern Cornbread

Simple savory southern style cornbread

Yield: One 9x9-inch pan or 9-inch rounds

PREP IT!

  • 1 cup Yellow corn meal

  • 1 cup Flour, all-purpose

  • 1 teaspoon Salt

  • 3 teaspoons Baking powder

  • ¼ cup Vegetable oil

  • 1 cup Buttermilk or Whole milk

  • 1 large Egg, beaten

MAKE IT!

  1. Preheat oven to 425F degrees.

  2. Combine corn meal, flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.

  3. Mix oil, egg, and milk together and add to dry ingredients, mixing until batter is uniform.

  4. Bake in a greased 9”x9” pan for 20-25 minutes.

Tip:

If you'd like a sweeter cornbread, I'd recommend using this recipe and adding ½ cup of granulated sugar to the dry ingredients. You can also drizzle the freshly baked cornbread with melted butter and honey, molasses, or sorghum syrup if you like that signature glaze on top of the cornbread.
